How we may be able to help

Cognitive Compass offers one-on-one and group support for people working with recovery, anxiety, shame, and the patterns that shape their daily lives.

People come when old habits or self-criticism keep pulling them off course, or when they want a steadier way to stay present and connected in moments that usually lead to spiraling or shutdown.

Sessions are grounded and practical, focused on what is happening in real time and how it shows up in the body, attention, and behavior. We use somatic breathing and embodiment experiences learned through the Somatica Institute to help people settle anxiety in their body, increase awareness, and remain connected when emotions or urges arise. Through conversation, breath, and simple embodied practices, people learn to recognize patterns as they show up and respond with more choice and self-trust.

This work grows out of lived experience in recovery and time spent in spaces where people are actively trying to change their lives. My aim is to create environments that feel human and supportive, where people can work honestly with what they are carrying and move forward with more clarity and steadiness.

About

Cognitive Compass

Hi, I’m Caleb! I help you change how you think, so you can change how you live.

I offer one-on-one, non 12 step recovery coaching for people who know something in their life needs to change but haven’t found a home in traditional recovery programs. Drawing from my own lived experience and my certification through the National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, my coaching is structured yet personalized, focused on helping clients build the life they want through practical strategies and daily practice.

I work with people facing a wide range of maladaptive behaviors, including substance use and gambling addiction, guiding them to develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and long-term change. For the past two years, I’ve facilitated SMART Recovery groups and also host a weekly mindfulness-based discussion group using fables and music to explore the beliefs and patterns that shape our lives.

I spent years battling alcohol addiction that cost me my marriage and brought me to the edge of a cliff. Looking over that edge, I saw just how close I was to doing irreversible damage to the trajectory of my life. I stepped back and began rebuilding. Through focused thought work and uncompromising change, I created a new vision of the good life. Today, that means using the skills most recently learned serving in senior leadership at Habitat for Humanity in Lima, Ohio and now in founding Cognitive Compass.

My goal is simple: to help others find the same clarity, stability, and direction that turned my life around without shame, labels, or rigid paths.

We get together once a week to see what happens. Sometimes it's a poem. Sometimes a fable. Sometimes someone shows up with a story that changes the whole night.

There's no cost, no membership, no perfect way to be here. We trade plans for presence, judgment for curiosity,
and let the conversation find its own shape.

We don't fix anyone. We just notice things together. A line in a story might turn into a question. A laugh might open into something real. Someone might say the exact thing you didn't know you needed to hear.

We call it practice because that's what it is, a space to try honesty, to feel what's moving through you, to remember what it's like to connect without pretending.

    Come as you are.
Bring your coffee, your mess, your wonder. We'll be right there with you, listening, laughing, and learning how to stay awake together.
